Social Prescribing/Community Connector
Social Prescribing is an approach to offering non-medical support that enables older adults to identify, set and achieve personal health and wellness goals. A Community Connector helps to find appropriate local programs and services and provides regular check-ins to ensure clients are on track. Cherryville Community Food and Resource Society is a Community Connector under the Social Prescribing program supporting older adults in Cherryville area.
Eligibility: any older adult residing in Cherryville area 55+ who is either experiencing or is at risk of:
- Frailty
- Social Isolation and/or Loneliness
- Barriers to Accessing Community-Based Resources
- Frequent Trips to Emergency Department or Primary Care
- Experiencing Life-Limiting Illness (Congestive Heart Failure, Renal Failure, COPD, Diabetes, etc.), End-of-Life, Palliative Care.
CCFRS accepts referrals from health care professionals, family/friends, community organizations, as well as self-referrals. Download referral form below or call us directly for more information at 250-547-0089.
Cherryville Senior Services
Meal Program: Any older adult residing in Cherryville area who is 65+ can utilize our Drive-Thru Senior Meal Program. Fresh meals can be picked up the same day they are made, otherwise all meals are frozen and can be picked up at a later date. Meals are made and distributed on the second Saturday of each month. Cost is $5.00 per meal, maximum 2 per person. All proceeds go back to the program.
Aging in Motion: Older adults residing in Cherryville area can request transportation services through our Aging in Motion program. Requests are filled based on driver capacity. To request a ride, contact Amanda Derdau at 250-547-0089. Fee: $30.00 to Vernon and back; $20.00 to Lumby and back; $10.00 within 10km. If finances are a concern, please reach out to inquire about our subsidy options.
Friendly Visiting: Reducing social isolation and loneliness by keeping Cherryville older adults connected. Volunteers coordinate directly with older adults to determine days and times that work for either a home visit or social call! Senior Recreation & Socialization: Senior Sit Down Dinners are available to all older adults living in Cherryville and Lumby area. Dinners are held the last monday of the month and typically run from September – May. Subscribe to our monthly newsletter to stay informed of upcoming dinner details including menu and speakers. Enjoy a night with friends and peers at our sit down dinners where we often incorporate games, live music, and presenters to keep folks informed and entertained.
Chair Exercise for Older Adults is a free program for local older adults looking to move their bodies with intention. Classes provided by a licensed Yoga Instructor once a week typically in Fall and Spring.
